2011 Von Schubert Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Riesling Spatlese 1x300cl

Subtle aromas of apricot, quince and sweet basil. Seductively unctuous mirabelle flavor complicated by piquant saline minerality. The youthfully compact, spicy finish displays enormous length. A great effort and one of the finest spatleses of the vintage. [Joel Payne, 12/01/2013]

I have to assume that the AP #6 Spatlese from the Abtsberg was bottled for Prowein again this year and there may well be another 2011 Abtsberg Spatlese waiting in the wings. The nose is quite lovely on this wine, wafting from the glass in mix of white cherries, pears, mint, bee pollen, irises and a beautiful base of slate minerality. On the palate the wine is medium-full, bright and pure, with solid depth, juicy acids and good length and grip on the focused finish. A very nice wine. [John Gilman, 15/03/2012]

Mosel Fine Wines 90

This offers a comparatively intense nose of pear cream, smoke and herbs. The wine is smooth and elegant on the palate, with however also the richness and presence of an Auslese. This then leads to a long finish in which the wine gets to the relative lightness of a Spatlese. This is a very smooth and slick effort. [Mosel Fine Wines, 01/07/2012]
