Bachelet
A traditional family domaine, where the long held belief that the wine is made in the vineyard has been enhanced by thoughtful vinification and use of oak. Denis has now been joined by his son Nicolas, and is looking to expand - great news as we never seem to get enough of these wines! The top wine, the Charmes-Chambertin, is a beautiful thing, probably cumulatively responsible for more of my vinous pleasure than any other wine, and ages effortlessly (if you find any in good condition back to '85, buy !). The Cote de Nuits Villages, village Gevrey and 1er cru Corbeaux are also excellent wines, but all are quite firm and dense compared to what you might expect for the appellation. As a consequence they do not show as well when young as the Charmes: give them time in the cellar!
