The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru seems to show a little more extract on the nose, slightly more pithy than its peers, though still well-defined with ample freshness. The palate is well balanced with orange pith, mango and pear, countered by a lovely spicy streak. Fine length and well-focused, this should give great pleasure over the coming 15-20 years. A clean pale yellow colour. The bouquet is a little riper than the first two wines in the flight. Plenty of flesh on the palate, peaches rinsed with citrus, medium length. [Jasper Morris, 01/05/2022]

John Gilman 92+

The Vergers vines here are now twenty years of age in 2018 and Alex noted that they are really starting to arrive and this is one of the best bottlings of Vergers I have yet tasted from the domaine. The bouquet is an absolutely classic example of this terroir, offering up scents of apple, pear, chalky minerality, vanillin oak, a touch of bee pollen and a beautiful, floral topnote redolent of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and nicely mineral on the backend, with a beautiful core of fruit, great balance and a long, properly reserved and very promising finish. Burghound 90-92

Subtle touch of wood and exotic fruit add breadth to the poached pear and spice aromas. Once again, the middle weight flavors possess a beguiling texture thanks to the abundance of dry extract that also buffers the moderately firm acid spine shaping the complex long and youthfully austere finale.
