Tasting Notes
Jasper Morris 92
Several plots, averaging 65 years old, from Gevrey rather than Brochon. Half whole bunch, 30% new wood. Predominantly red fruit, really classy, glowing cherry and raspberry, balanced fine and sensual, very long finish. Balance and discretion.
Vinous 89-91
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 60-years old and it matures in 25% new oak and 50% whole bunches. This has a very expressive bouquet with blackberry, briary and light loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with white pepper sprinkled over the dark berry fruit, hints of Earl Grey towards the nicely composed finish. Excellent.
Anticipated maturity: 2020-2028
Burghound 88-90
A background veneer of oak is present on the perfumed aromas of plum, earth and violet. Here too the mouthfeel of the slightly bigger and richer flavors is quite sleek thanks to plenty of mid-palate fat where the lingering and moderately firm finish is both mildly austere and warm.

50% whole bunch, 25% new oak. Cask sample. Simple nose, but the black fruit really comes through on the palate, giving rich, thick, mouth-filling concentration. Finely polished tannins, just enough acidic refreshment and moderate persistence.
Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030
