Tasting Notes
Vinous 92
The 2012 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has tasted well in the past. This felt a little closed on the nose and Roman Taupenot himself suggested that it might be amidst a closed phase. The palate is sweet and ripe and certainly more open for business: vibrant raspberry and cranberry fruit, black pepper, clove and cedar towards a nicely structured finish. Give this another year in bottle because it just needs time to flower. Tasted at Flint Wines Taupenot-Merme retrospective.
Anticipated maturity: 2022-2038
Robert Parker 91
The 2012 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Les Riottes is a little introverted on the nose after bottling, but the palate certainly reaffirms the potential that it showed in barrel with superb structure and a bold finish that fans out across the mouth. With good persistency, I can see this aging wonderfully over the next decade. Drink 2015-2022+. Importers: Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620; Scott Paul Wines, Carlton, OR; tel.
