Tasting Notes
Vinous 94
The 2012 Syrah Skyline Vineyard is deep, powerful and intense, with serious resonance throughout. Inky blue and purplish fruit, lavender, menthol, violets and spices meld together in a pliant, exuberant Syrah built on structure. Serious tannins and beams of salinity push through to the intense finish. The 100% whole clusters are pretty much buried by the fruit.
Anticipated maturity: 2018-2024
Robert Parker 93
Slightly more supple and layered than the Horseshoe Vineyard release, the 2012 Syrah Skyline Vineyard offers impeccable balance in its mulled red and black fruits, orange blossom, toasted spice, licorice and underbrush-styled bouquet. Possessing a solid core of sweet fruit, it has plenty of ripe tannin, good acidity and no hard edges. There’s a slightly rounded, rustic feel here, but everything is in the right place and it will come together nicely with another year in bottle. It will drink well for a decade.
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025
