Tasting Notes
Vinous 91+
Red-ruby. Tangy, floral, compellingly sweet aromas of black cherry, cocoa powder and fresh herbs. Very silky and sweet, even thick today, but extremely backward. In fact, the flavors are currently a bit monolithic even if powerful acids give the wine a compelling vibrancy. Finishes very long, ripely tannic and sweet, with notes of bitter chocolate and licorice. I prefer the Amoureuses today.
Robert Parker 95
This dark ruby-colored wine is unbelievable, and potentially will be Jadot’s finest 1996. An awesome nose of deep black cherries intermingled with sauteed mushrooms, underbrush, stones, and minerals is followed by an amazingly powerful yet tense personality. Complex layers of intense, precise, pure, and earthy fruit cascade over the palate in this full-bodied, thickly-textured, muscular, masculine, and well-delineated wine. The harmonious juxtaposition between this offering’s outstanding depth and richness and its elegant focus is mind-blowing. A tour de force! Projected maturity: 2004-2010+.
