Tasting Notes
Vinous 94+
Very good deep red-ruby. Black cherry, boysenberry, rose petal, licorice, minerals, shoe polish, mint and white pepper on the nose. Extremely unyielding today in the middle palate, and dominated by its rather large structure. Exotic hints of citrus fruit keep the flavors bright and sharp. Then extremely long and authoritative on the back end. A wine of great potential, but it’s all nose and finish today. May ultimately merit a considerably higher score.
Robert Parker 91
Appears more aged than the 1995 side by side. Very smooth rounded nose with notes of liquorice and raisin mixed with a little caramel. Very complex on the palate, more backward with a sweet black cherry core of fruit. Showier than the 1999, it lacks the poise and vitality to make it a truly great wine. Drink 5- 10 years. Tasted May 2004.
