Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 93
Medium-to-dark ruby colored, the spectacularly aromatic Bonnes Mares explodes out of the glass with spiced apples, dark cherries and cola scents. Chewy, powerful, polished and intensely structured, this full-bodied wine is packed with wild berries, plums and red fruits. Drink 2003-2012+. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided.
Anticipated maturity: 2003-2012
Vinous 93+
Deep red. Deeper-pitched aromas of blue fruits, clove, mint and coffee; much more Morey in character than the other wines of this domain, despite the fact that this holding of 2.7 hectares is in the southeast corner (i.e., Chambolle side) of the appellation, next to Fuees. Powerful, penetrating and very closed, with a mineral firmness. Noble tannins coat the entire mouth. Like the other ’95 crus at this address, this wine has all the components for long-term aging.
