Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 93
Tasted at Christies’ “Kings of the Rhone†tasting in London. Always a controversial wine depending upon which bottling you encounter, this is probably not the best. It has a very tertiary nose with wild berries, sous-bois, bacon fat and black olive, the brett quite strong. The palate is better than the nose, with more freshness and vibrancy, Morello cherry, creme de cassis and bacon fat. I just feel that this bottle lacks a little harmony towards the finish. Tasted May 2011.
Vinous 92
Deep saturated ruby-red; amazing retention of color for a 20-year-old wine. Penetrating aromas of black plum, game, truffle and iron filings. A drier, older style of Hermitage with powerful structure and fruit of steel. Finishes with superb grip and persistence. Has the cut and intensity to serve as perfect accompaniment to sweetbreads or richly sauced game dishes.
